Why Become A Certified Heavy Equipment Operator?

For many companies, starting a career or advancing as a Heavy Equipment Operator requires formal training and/or certification.

Certification

With costly, even deadly accidents involving construction equipment on the rise in recent years, the U.S. Governments Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has substantially increased regulations on the industry.

OSHA’s latest mandate, effective 11/8/2010, requires all operators of cranes with a 2,000 lb capacity or higher to be certified by the NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators). It’s estimated that this new law will impact some 4.8 million workers in the U.S!

While OSHA does not yet require heavy equipment operators to be certified, many companies in the industry do! Employers know that certified operators are by rule safer and more proficient than those uncertified. Some employers have even reported reduced liability insurance premiums as a result of hiring certified equipment operators!

Why are trained, certified operators in such demand? Watch the video below!

Heavy Construction Academy prepares graduates to meet the real-world challenges faced by today’s operators.
